Why join NATECLA?
As the professional association for teachers of ESOL and community languages throughout the U.K. and Ireland, NATECLA’s members are rewarded with a range of opportunities to acquire and share information, expertise and good practice about the sector with like-minded ESOL professionals.
From only £20 per year (or free for new student members) our members receive a range of invaluable benefits. We attract membership from institutions, voluntary sector organisations, individual members, volunteers, retired teachers and trainee teachers.

NEW! Members area
The new area will allow you more control over your NATECLA account with a seamless approach to events bookings.
In this area you will have access to your own profile which you can keep up to date for networking with your peers. There will be forums based on specific interest and area.
Lastly, there will be a curated media library filled with resources including recorded webinars on various subjects.

Language Issues
All members receive our journal Language Issues, which is available as a PDF or online.
This is the only peer reviewed journal dedicated to teaching, training, management and research into ESOL and community languages
Members can access past issues of the journal via the media library in the members area.

Reduced IATEFL membership
NATECLA has an affiliate relationship with the organisation which allows our members to join IATEFL on a basic membership rate (£27p/y in 2023/24) which entitles members to:

- A copy of IATEFL magazine, Voices, which is published six times per year

Access to our programme of high quality conferences, including the Annual Conference (known throughout the sector as the leading event in the ESOL calendar), monthly webinars and regular one-day conferences held at locations throughout the country. All of these events are reduced in price to members.

Institutional membership
Institutions who join NATECLA receive all the benefits mentioned above. In addition, they will be entitled to:
A discount off all bookings made through NATECLA's new in-house training service, NATECLA Training for ESOL departments, university English language teams and private language schools
Standard institutions - send five staff members at the reduced member rate to NATECLA events and conferences . Small voluntary sector institutions (employing the equivalent of three full-time members of staff or less) can send two staff members at this rate to each event.
How much does membership cost?
Members can join NATECLA all year round and will immediately be able to benefit from reduced entry to events. Individual membership runs for 12 months from the joining date. Affiliated Institution membership is for the academic year ending on 31 August each year.

(A) Paid individual £50
Individual members who work in colleges, adult education centres and in the community for over 18.5 hours per week (average), as teachers, managers, examiners and assessors, inspectors and teacher trainers.

(B) Paid individual £32
Individual members who work in colleges, adult education centres and in the community for between 4.5 and 18.5 hours per week (average) as teachers, managers, examiners and assessors, inspectors and teacher trainers.

(C) Paid individual £20
Individual members who work in colleges, adult education centres and in the community for 4 hours per week or under (average), as teachers, managers, examiners and assessors, inspectors and teacher trainers.

(C) Retired teacher and/ or volunteer £20
Volunteers or retired teachers who work with English language learners and wish to take advantage of membership benefits at a lower cost.

(D) Associate individual £32
Not working in the field.

(E) Affiliated institution: STANDARD £150
Typically a further education college, adult or community education centre or private language school.

(F) Student member - FREE for one year
Somebody training to teach English as a second language - you could be studying towards a CELTA, PGCE or a Masters in TESOL / ELT or an additional relevant qualification.

(G) Affiliated institution: SMALL £55
3rd sector organisation employing up to 3 full-time members of staff or equivalent.

There you will select the level of membership you require and complete the payment online. You will receive an email confirming membership. You can pay for NATECLA membership by debit/ credit card (via Stripe). If you want an institutional membership you can contact us with a purchase order number if required and we will send you an invoice.
Free membership!
Students: If you're a trainee teacher or working towards a PGCE, DELTA, CELTA or a Masters in ELT/TESOL, you can take advantage of our one year's free membership offer.
Refugees, asylum seekers, and Hong Kong BNO: NATECLA is delighted to announce that we are introducing free membership for one year to all refugees, asylum seekers, and Hong Kong BNO who are teachers of ESOL/EFL.
